Despite the fact that it rains all time, winter results in dry everything – dry skin, dry lips, and dry hair. During the winter the best plan is to use a shampoo that’s specifically designed to protect damaged hair everytime you wash your hair, helping it to maintain moisture and ultimately prevent it from getting too dry in the first place.
Products with natural ingredients are great for this as using it frequently means you won’t be coating your hair in any chemicals and it won’t lose any of it’s natural oils. Original Source are made with all sorts of lovely smelling things that do wonders for your hair and use 100% natural oils, with no synthetic fragrances. Their Almond and Coconut Deep Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner will make your hair smell delicious, will nourish it, and is mild enough to use all winter, and cost a very reasonable £1.99 each.
Natural Source products are available in most Boots and Superdrug shops.

The Alice band is definitely here to stay, and it seems the highstreet knows it. Add a bit of detail to a plain hairband and it seems the highstreet with charge anything from £10 upwards for it. Luckily you can still get your hands on this seasons hottest accessory without spending too much. South Beach Rocks makes loads of different accessories, including a range of hair accessories.
This Daisy Satin Headband costs £5.95 and has a great jewel flower detail on the side that sets off the black satin finish perfectly. The flower jewel is available in a slight blue tint, or clear. These neutral colours means it’ll match any outfit, so you can wear it with anything.
South Beach Rocks have also got some other great hairbands so have a look at their range over at HQHair.

If you’ve got thick hair like me, you’ll know that you need about twice as many hair clips as everyone else does to do the job. Whilst cute, ornamental hair clips and slides are great, they often don’t stay put in thick hair, or won’t clip shut. So I think the current trend for over sized hair clips is great, as they’re perfect for using on thicker hair and actually work on more than a few strands. I picked up a set at the weekend and haven’t stopped using them since, and they haven’t fallen out once.
These Animal Mix clips from Dorothy Perkins are brilliant. More exciting than plain old silver, you can use them as a feature or just use them to keep your hair tucked out of the way. They cost £5 for 3 and you can get a set online or instore.
Stock up on them while you can because as with all trends, they’ll soon disappear from the shops.

These days it’s really easy to get hold of products that are free from chemicals, but sometimes they can fall a little short in the smell and image stakes. Realising this, Face Boutique decided to launch a range of products that look great, smell great, are free from chemicals, and do the job.
Their Hair Laundry Shampoo and Conditioner keep things simple with one product for all hair types. The lack of any chemicals means that you can use it as often as you like and not worry about damaging your hair or stripping it of it’s natural oils. It’s mild formula contains fruit oils which are all naturally source so there’s nothing nasty in it. The conditioner is great for repairing split ends and will also nourish the scalp. They cost £9.50 each.
You can get these products and the rest of the Face Boutique range at their website.

Molten Brown have launched a great range of haircare to go with their other luxury products that include handwash, makeup and skin care.
They’ve kept it simple and have four different kinds of shampoo that target different hair troubles. There’s purifying plum-kadu that cleans your hair of general dirt and pollution, radiant lili-pili refreshes the scalp and leaves hair with a brilliant shine, moisture-drench rosella untangles hair and moisturises, and de-stressing pandano is a cream shampoo for colour-treated or permed hair. There is also a conditioner to go with each one, giving your hair the complete treatment it needs, no matter what type it is.
There are also some deep-cleansing products for repairing hair.
Molten Brown are infamous for their wonderfully fragrant products, and I imagine their hair care range will be no different, meaning you’ll be able to smell their wonderful scents all day!
The shampoos and conditioners cost £16 each and all the products are available from Molten Brown online or instore.

Johnny Loves Rosie is a brilliantly named UK fashion company who make unique accessories and jewellery. Created by Maryrose Monroe, the name is inspired by her parents, who are called Johnny and Rosie.
These Rose Pear Bobby Pins are great for adding a bit of sparkle to your hair, and are really versatile. You can make a feature of them by pinning back the sides of your hair with them, or use them to add detail to a pony tail or up-do. They’re also great for securing bits of hair that just won’t go in a pony tail in a stylish way. The rose crystal effect gives a vintage feel, and if pink isn’t your colour you can also get them in Crystal or Sapphire Crystal.
They’re retailing at £12 for 2 hair pins, and you get them from the Johnny Loves Rosie website.

If you want to give your hair a bit of a pampering session, but don’t fancy spending hours in a salon or spa, then pop down to The Body Shop and try this Poppyseed Reviving Mask. It works in the same way as a conditioner, just coat your hair with a thick layer and then leave it on for 3-5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly et voila! You’ll have shinier, glossier and happier hair! Poppy seed oil is rich in omega acids 6 and 9, and as well as repairing hair it’ll also create a barrier that’ll help prevent further damage.
Use it whenever you think your hair needs a bit of a boost!
It comes it a 200ml tub, which is a generous size that’ll last ages. It costs £8 and is available instore or online.

Boring as they are, hair elastics are an essential item for anyone with hair long enough to tie back. However, they can often be quite harsh on hair, particularly the metal join that can often get tangled up and end up pulling out a clump of hair when it’s removed.
So haircare company Blax have managed to create elastics without the metal part! These revolutionary bands are completely metal free, and the two ends of the elastic are fused together seamlessly. You can get them to blend in perfectly with your hair colour, as they come in blonde, black and dark brown. The elastics are the perfect thickness for pony tails, bunches, or whatever else you want to create! Not having the metal part also means they’re less likely to stretch out of shape.
You can pick up a pack of 3 Blax metal free hair bands for £3.50 from HQ Hair.

Whilst the fringe revolution marches on, I’m constantly looking for a product that will keep my fringe looking clean and shiny without having to wash my hair every day. Dry shampoo has to be one of the best new products in recent years, but sadly not all of them work. However, I’m more than happy to trust supermodel Erin O’Connor, and she’s teamed up with legendary hair care company Toni & Guy to produce a range of products including a Quick Fix Dry Shampoo.
Packaged as a sleek aerosol can, it’ll slip in your handbag and all you need to do is give your fringe a quick spray to refresh it. The spray removes any excess oil that gives your fringe a limp, greasy look and gives it some extra volume.
At £5.49 it’s not the cheapest product available, but as I’ve discovered, the cheaper ones simply don’t do the job, and for the best results you have to go with the experts. Available from Boots online or instore.
