Accessorise Your Hair

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Tartan Button ClipsNext season sees an almost ‘anything goes’ mentality in the hair department. Up-down, down-do or no-do, it’s not about how you wear it, but what you wear in it. We’ve already seen the return of the Alice Band over the summer, and now all kinds of accessories are being used in hair styles, from brooches to clips, ribbons and bows, and even the humble bobble.

Dorothy Perkins have a great selection of hairbands and clips, including these cute Tartan Button Clips, and there are lots of bargains to be had in their current sale.

The great thing about this trend is that it can be achieved cheaply with shops like Claire’s Accessories, or you can go for one statement designer piece. Haberdasheries are great for picking up ribbon, as there’s a huge variety at very cheap prices.

Funky Diva Flash Extensions

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Funky Diva Flash ExtensionsIf your locks are looking a bit dull and you’re fed up of the same old hair style and color, add a bit of vibrance with some flash extensions.

These are great because you can pop them in for a night out to go with your outfit or to spice up a simple dress. The extensions are 16 inches long and you can choose from a variety of colours from Swedish blonde to dark turquoise.

At Hair Extension Snow they can be purchased for £3.99 and next day delivery is possible. They also have larger packs of wavy or straight hair some with a clip-in option. These are more expensive (from £27.99 – £49.99) so if its just a splash of colour you’re after these £3.99 flash extensions are probably the better choice.

No More Knots with the Tangle Teezer

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Tangle TeezerMy hair is quite short at the moment but when it was longer I always had trouble with knots. Not only did it hurt when I brushed them through but my hair would break and become thinner and thinner. My friend who is a hairdresser has just been telling me about the Tangle Teezer, she says she uses it all the time and it makes such a difference to the condition of her hair.

The brush was invented by celebrity colourist Shaun P who has 30 years experience in the hair care business and it won a competition in 2007 (Frizz Magazine’s Dream Factory Innovation of the Year).

By using this product you can apparently decrease splitting dramatically, the brush even de-tangles wet hair with little effort. If you suffer from tangled hair give it a go and let us know how you got on! The brush costs £9.99 and is available to order online at HQ Hair.

There are plenty of styles in the shops to experiment with to suit the look that you are going for. Pick one with a bow on in your favourite colour or go for an over the top one with fancy twists and beads! I have found loads on the accessorize website that I have fallen in love with, but this one in particular really caught my attention.

This Gem Butterfly Alice Band is £8.00 and would really finish off an evening outfit!

Make your own chirstmas hair accessories!

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Chrimbo Hair AccessoryI found these adorable hair clips online and thought they would be the perfect hair accessories. I was really disappointed to find out that you couldn’t buy them but then I discovered instructions on how to make them! I used to make my own jewellery and hair accessories all the time so I thought this would be a really fun thing to do.

You can get the instructions from Girly Things. You will need an alligator clip which you can get from boots or any hair shop, some green, brown and red ribbon and some strong glue. The instructions are really easy to follow and there is a step by step picture guide too.

You could do the same thing with a brooch pin if you would rather make a brooch than hair clips. I found making these clips great fun and I think they would make a really thoughtful Christmas gift, so give it a go!

Accessorize your Hair!

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Miu Miu AlicebandAlice bands are a cool way to accessorize your hair this winter! I personally remember wearing them when I was about 5, which is a bit strange, but if you’re a real girly girl you will love this look!

I have taken the time to search for the best Alice bands a girl can buy and if you’re a bit of a designer chick you will love this coral patent leather Alice band by Miu Miu; the colour is sooo gorgeous and just to show everyone that it is Miu Miu, their name has been embellished on the side in gold! Cute! So if you fancy splashing out, this headband can be purchased from net a porter for £55 and also comes in black, perfect to match those patent black platforms that everyone has this season!

If your on a bit more of a budget why not try Accessorize?! They have a fab collection of Alice bands, here’s one of my favourites, for £8 you just can’t go wrong!

Eylure Naturalites

Friday, September 28th, 2007

NaturalitesCelebs such as Nicola from Girls Aloud use false eyelashes when performing on stage to get a glamourous look. Without looking obviously fake, which quite a few brands of false lashes often do. These are perfect for a natural finish. They are sparse lashes that will enhance and lift the eyes to create a fuller, more bodied look.

I have never been one to wear false eye lashes as i dont quite fancy the idea of glueing them to my eyelids and them looking too over the top, so that people can notice that they arent real. But i might be swayed after discovering these as they look oh so natural…! For just £4.95 from Auravita.co.uk.
