Tangle Free Elastics

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Blax Metal Free Hair BandsBoring as they are, hair elastics are an essential item for anyone with hair long enough to tie back. However, they can often be quite harsh on hair, particularly the metal join that can often get tangled up and end up pulling out a clump of hair when it’s removed.

So haircare company Blax have managed to create elastics without the metal part! These revolutionary bands are completely metal free, and the two ends of the elastic are fused together seamlessly. You can get them to blend in perfectly with your hair colour, as they come in blonde, black and dark brown. The elastics are the perfect thickness for pony tails, bunches, or whatever else you want to create! Not having the metal part also means they’re less likely to stretch out of shape.

You can pick up a pack of 3 Blax metal free hair bands for £3.50 from HQ Hair.

Boost Your Hair

S Factor Booster SprayIf you are a little unimpressed with your hair at the moment and feel it needs some umph, there are plenty of new products in the shops to boost your hair and bring back a bit of life to it! There is a great range by TIGI called S Factor which has all sorts of new products including booster sprays, hairspray and silky smooth serums.

I was looking for something that could give my hair a little more volume; the Body Booster Plumping Spray does just that. I even give a quick spritz to dry hair it refreshes and heightens hair, being handbag size a great idea if you’re on the move and need to boost your look!

Accessorize Head BandFancy adding an extra fashion accessory to your look? Why not go for instant glam by adding a hair band but keeping your hair style simple.

There are plenty of styles in the shops to experiment with to suit the look that you are going for. Pick one with a bow on in your favourite colour or go for an over the top one with fancy twists and beads! I have found loads on the accessorize website that I have fallen in love with, but this one in particular really caught my attention.

This Gem Butterfly Alice Band is £8.00 and would really finish off an evening outfit!

50s Christmas Glamour

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Hair StyleWe know that hair bands are hot at the moment but how do you wear them this party season to create a sophisticated look. Chloe Rhodes at the telegraph.co.uk visited top London hairstylist Carla Farrugia at Hari’s Salon and she showed her some glamorous party styles using an alice band a elastic hairband, curling tongs and some bobby pins. I love the bouffant half up-half down do. So often people think that the have to either have hair up or down for a party style and this style often gets neglected. The tonged curls look great and the hair at the front sweeped to the side gives you a whole new look by creating a 50s style fringe. I think this style would look fantastic with many of 40s and 50s inspired dresses that have appeared on the high street this Christmas.

Fringe Crazy

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Adding a fringe to your hairstyle is the most dramatic way to change your look other than going for a full on chop. You just need to look at the pictures of Kate Moss to see how a fringe can change your face shape and flatter your bone structure. Kate’s heavy fringe is not for everyone, her killer cheek bones are not swamped by such a style but there are plenty of variations on the theme so there is something to suit all face shapes.

If you feel brave enough to go for a full on blunt fringe you can take inspiration from the likes of Lilly Allen and Sarah Harding but sweeping fringes like Nicole Richie or light wispy fringes like Jennifer Aniston’s are great for those just wanting to soften the face a bit and are much better if you suffer from greasy skin on your forehead. Check out some pictures of celebs with different face shapes and different style fringes. You can see what works and go to your hairdresser with a good idea in mind of what you want.

Hippy Headbands

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

Hippy Head BandUsually we associate headbands with summer but many stars are still wearing them and summer has certainly disappeared this year! This time round it’s the hippy headgear that is all the range, this tie band is a hippy print with a paisley design, using a mixture of purples, yellow and black it really does have that hippy look to it.

When choosing a band or head scarf, go for sparkly ones or bright colours. They are ideal to use as a quick fix on a bad hair day or when you are trying to grow a fringe out. You can wear head bands straight across your forehead or over your head for an instant 70’s chic look. This one is available from Accessorize for £6.

Textured Chignon

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Textured ChignonStraight off the catwalk for Matthew Williamson this style will never go out of fashion, the chignon is a great way to style the hair as it looks sophisticated without trying to hard. Models on and off the catwalk have been wearing their hair like this for years for a natural yet chic look. There are so many diffrerent types of chignons these days but they all give the same overall effect.

Bumble and Bumble have kindly given us directions on how to achieve the ‘Textured Chignon,’ which involves exaggerating the back bun whilst still having a sleek finish on top. They have also recommended some hair products to help us along the way! Unfortunatley this style will only work on long hair.
