A Treat for you Hair

September 8th, 2008

Body Shop Poppyseed Reviving MaskIf you want to give your hair a bit of a pampering session, but don’t fancy spending hours in a salon or spa, then pop down to The Body Shop and try this Poppyseed Reviving Mask. It works in the same way as a conditioner, just coat your hair with a thick layer and then leave it on for 3-5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly et voila! You’ll have shinier, glossier and happier hair! Poppy seed oil is rich in omega acids 6 and 9, and as well as repairing hair it’ll also create a barrier that’ll help prevent further damage.

Use it whenever you think your hair needs a bit of a boost!

It comes it a 200ml tub, which is a generous size that’ll last ages. It costs £8 and is available instore or online.

Tangle Free Elastics

September 4th, 2008

Blax Metal Free Hair BandsBoring as they are, hair elastics are an essential item for anyone with hair long enough to tie back. However, they can often be quite harsh on hair, particularly the metal join that can often get tangled up and end up pulling out a clump of hair when it’s removed.

So haircare company Blax have managed to create elastics without the metal part! These revolutionary bands are completely metal free, and the two ends of the elastic are fused together seamlessly. You can get them to blend in perfectly with your hair colour, as they come in blonde, black and dark brown. The elastics are the perfect thickness for pony tails, bunches, or whatever else you want to create! Not having the metal part also means they’re less likely to stretch out of shape.

You can pick up a pack of 3 Blax metal free hair bands for £3.50 from HQ Hair.

Fluff up your Fringe

September 1st, 2008

Toni&Guy Quick Fix Dry ShampooWhilst the fringe revolution marches on, I’m constantly looking for a product that will keep my fringe looking clean and shiny without having to wash my hair every day. Dry shampoo has to be one of the best new products in recent years, but sadly not all of them work. However, I’m more than happy to trust supermodel Erin O’Connor, and she’s teamed up with legendary hair care company Toni & Guy to produce a range of products including a Quick Fix Dry Shampoo.

Packaged as a sleek aerosol can, it’ll slip in your handbag and all you need to do is give your fringe a quick spray to refresh it. The spray removes any excess oil that gives your fringe a limp, greasy look and gives it some extra volume.

At £5.49 it’s not the cheapest product available, but as I’ve discovered, the cheaper ones simply don’t do the job, and for the best results you have to go with the experts. Available from Boots online or instore.

Protect and Perfect gets even Better!

August 26th, 2008

Protect and Perfect Glossy Locks SpritzBoots No7 Protect and Perfect range has almost achieved cult status in the last year or so. Their Protect and Perfect Beauty Serum claimed, like other similar products, to be scientifically proven to reduce wrinkles. However, as a BBC documentary showed, the product was pioneered after many tests and trials were carried out. It did indeed reduce the appearance of wrinkles caused by premature aging, and in particular damage done by the sun.

Boots have now launched a Protect and Perfect product for hair, the Glossy Locks Hair Spritz that will protect hair from sun, chlorine and sea, so it’s perfect for taking on holiday. Simply spray it all over and hair is protected. It’s also got a lovely summery smell to it and won’t make your hair look greasy. At £5.75 it’s a steal for a product from a premium range, and it’s also available in the current buy one get one free offer on Boots’ No7 suncare.

Stock up for a late summer holiday or winter sun trip now from the Boots website or in any Boots store.

It’s available in red, pink, purple and black so there’s one to match every outfit and mood.

At £25 it’s a touch extravagant for a hairband, but the bow is 100% silk and bows are a trend we’ll be seeing throughout AW08.

Ban Oily hair…with Oil

August 12th, 2008

Body Shop Olive Glossing ShampooWe’ve all heard that olive oil is good for your hair, but personally I’ve always been a bit scared to try it incase it wouldn’t rinse out and my hair ended up, well, oily. Luckily, The Body Shop have produced their Olive Glossing Shampoo. It contains olive leaf extract rather than oil, which makes hair glossy as well as helping to protect hair from damage. And, because it’s The Body Shop, you can lather up guilt free, as the oil is sourced from a co-operative in Italy, making sure that it’s top quality and the producers get a fair cut of the profit. The shampoo also contains organic honey which moisturises and conditions the hair.

There’s also a conditioner, which does contain organic olive oil which gets right inside the hair to condition and nourish, as well as protect.

If you fancy trying it, the shampoo and conditioner are available in a small 60ml size which contains enough for 3 or 4 washes, and perfect for taking on holiday.

Find it at The Body Shop online or in store.

Travel Light

August 8th, 2008

Charles Worthington Take AwaysPacking for your holidays is always a nightmare, no matter where you’re going or how long you’re going for. And once all the clothes and shoes are squeezed into the suitcase there’s that awful moment of horror when you realise you haven’t even started on make-up and toiletries.

No matter how nice the free shampoo in the hotel looks, it’s always nice to have your own stuff with you. Taking a huge bottle of shampoo and conditioner is impossible, which is why mini sizes are great.

Boots are currently offering 3 for 2 on Professional Hair Minis, so you can stock up on all your favourite, familiar items without over stuffing your suitcase or breaking the bank. The Charles Worthington Takeaways range is particularly good as there’s a huge variety from volume conditioner to shine on shampoo, and heat protection spray to hairspray. There’s even a special UV-protection range to look after your hair if you’re off to sunnier shores.

Available in store or at Boots online.

Curls Ahoy!

August 4th, 2008

Rageaze Twist & Curl WrapsHaving straight hair, I have, of course, always had a desire to have curly hair. I also, however, have very thick hair, and as a result my many efforts with the curling tongs have lasted approximately 30 minutes before the curls dropped out and I was left with unfortunate looking kinks.

Rollers were also a non-starter for me, as, when I put them in wet hair to dry overnight I a) nearly suffocated as I had to sleep face down to avoid squashing the rollers, b) my hair, due to it’s thickness and being rolled and twisted, often wasn’t dry by morning and c) I never had enough rollers to do all my hair.

So I’m rather excited to have found these Rageaze Twist & Curl Wraps. They only take an hour, can be done in dry hair, and there are 25 sheets in a pack, which should be more than enough for my hair. You simple roll up a section of hair in the pre-soaked tissues and tie the ends up. They’re also kinder to your hair than rollers and tongs and are cheaper too at only £4.35, available at HQ Hair.

Accessorise Your Hair

July 31st, 2008

Tartan Button ClipsNext season sees an almost ‘anything goes’ mentality in the hair department. Up-down, down-do or no-do, it’s not about how you wear it, but what you wear in it. We’ve already seen the return of the Alice Band over the summer, and now all kinds of accessories are being used in hair styles, from brooches to clips, ribbons and bows, and even the humble bobble.

Dorothy Perkins have a great selection of hairbands and clips, including these cute Tartan Button Clips, and there are lots of bargains to be had in their current sale.

The great thing about this trend is that it can be achieved cheaply with shops like Claire’s Accessories, or you can go for one statement designer piece. Haberdasheries are great for picking up ribbon, as there’s a huge variety at very cheap prices.
